'IP - Inter Park' 2008

Panoramische foto van de Sheep Meadow in Central Park, New York, opgebouwd uit ruim 400 foto's, waarbij elk detail (tot aan de glazenwassers hangend aan een wolkenkrabber toe) haarscherp is. De recreërende bezoekers van het Central Park zijn in de loop van enkele uren gefotografeerd en exact in de foto geplaatst op de plek waar ze zich bevonden, maar zijn zich niet bewust van degenen die voor of na hen op dezelfde plaats zaten en in dit beeld gelijktijdig zijn afgebeeld. De tijd is als het ware gecomprimeerd. Hierdoor ontstaat een surrealistische voorstelling waarin de intimiteit tussen mensen voelbaar wordt. Voor de 18,5 meter brede foto staan twintig strandstoelen bekleed met kunstgras. De indruk wordt zo versterkt dat degenen die het kunstwerk bekijken vanzelfsprekend ook deelgenoot zijn van het parktafereel.

Bij de tentoonstelling waar het werk voor het eerst getoond werd was de installatie uitgebreid met een speciaal ansichtenproject, 'het geheugen van Ypeij'.

Visitors to Central Park were photographed in the course of several hours and posted in the photo on exactly the same spot where they were, but not aware of those who sat before or after them in the same place and are shown in the same image. Time is compressed as it were. This creates a surreal image where the intimacy between people is palpable. For the 18.5 meters wide picture are twenty beach chairs covered with artificial turf. This way the impression is strengthened that those who view the artwork become part of the park scene themselves.

At the exhibition where the work was first shown the installation was expanded with a special postcards project, 'the memory of Ypeij'.
