Henri Dunantplein, Hillegom

Red Cross / Croix Rouge
Red Crescent / Croissant Rouge
Red Crystal / Crystal Rouge

With this concept, the tribute that the municipality Hillegom proves the founder of the Red Cross with the naming of a new shopping plaza, is emphasized and magnified into a visible monument. The recent addition of the Red Diamond internationally recognized as the third character, the result of lengthy deliberations and negotiations at international level, shows how complex the process is to capture and keep neutrality and identity in a single image. That even the Red Cross, the embodiment of the concept of neutrality and not without reason founded in Switzerland, needs different symbols in this world is an indication of the mere necessity of its existence. Even the concept of neutrality can not escape inflation. This sculpture in the shape of a shaky, but brave stacking of the three Red Cross symbols, gives a clear picture of how our world is balanced at this moment.
