Amordei / Amorproximi 1999

Twee vertikale letterstapelingen op een historische locatie tussen een bejaardenhuis, een zorgcentrum, een sociaal pension en een gotische kerk. Het credo ‘amor dei’ (liefde voor God) en ‘amor proximi’ (naastenliefde) is afkomstig van de bagijnen die in het hier gehuisveste eerste Leeuwarder hospitaal werkzaam waren. De woorden zelf vormen de beelden die als twee brandpunten ieder aan een eind van de smalle doorgang naast de kerk zowel de fysieke ruimte als de dynamiek van de locatie markeren.

Two vertical letterstacks at a historic location between a retirement home, a care center, a social pension and a Gothic church. The motto 'amor dei' (love of God) and 'amor proximi' (charity) is derived from the Bagijn nuns who worked in the first Leeuwarden hospital here. The words themselves are the images as two foci on either end of the narrow passage next to the church that mark both the physical space and the dynamics of the location.
